Some might assume that the McLaren 650S is just a face lifted and tweaked MP4-12C. They’d be wrong.   In this video Chris Harris learns that the McLaren 650S is not the standard mid generation face lift and update.  However, the 650S is a rather impressive and ambitious bundle of improvements as a result of McLaren listening to feedback from their clients and automotive experts.  The 650S is not only lighter, more aerodynamic and a whole lot more powerful than the MP4-12C, but also better looking.

To be precise, the McLaren 650S now boasts 641 horsepower (a 25 hp increase to the 12C) and 500 lb-ft of torque (a 57 ft-lb increase).  Then to handle this additional power, McLaren’s engineers blessed the 650S with 40 percent more down force from a combination of aerodynamic design, software updates and stiffer spring rates.

Other notable upgrades relative to the outgoing model are the lighter alloy wheels, carbon ceramic brakes and more efficient exhaust.

Watch the video to see Chris Harris investigate McLaren’s claims to see if the 650S is indeed notably quicker, more responsive, more comfortable, and a bigger blast to drive.
